Avatar: Simply amazing

So I went to go see Avatar today in 3D. I knew there was much hype over the movie but wasn't really excited to see it. But to my surprise it was probably one of the most amazing movies I have watched in years! The special effects are incredible it was like nothing I had ever seen. It was visually an amazing movie and to back it up with an actually well played out love story. The movie is way much than an action packed blockbuster. It was like being taken into a different world, and I totally got into the love story of it all. Along with how the film emphasizes the importance of nature and connecting with all living things. Avatar brings so much to the table and I am glad I got out and saw it! Anyone doubting to see it please do and DON'T wait until its on DVD, I think what makes it so spectacular is that its on big screen in 3D. If I get a chance I would definitely see it again in imax.

500 days of summer vs paper heart

Since I have been home I have spent most of my time catching up on the movies I have been wanting to see since the summer time. I finally got to see 500 days of summer and paper heart, two movies that I need for my inner indie love story fix. Since they both kinda are about the same thing Love and if it is real and true love, all that crap I thought I would do a quick review of the two!

I was really excited to see 500 days of summer! I think mostly because I find Joseph Gordon-Levitt attractive and I like Zooey Deschanel. So I figured two attractive and cute people could make a cute love story. But I should have known in the first 5 minutes when they said this wasn't a love story that I was gonna get disappointed. The film had some cute moments but a majority of it was this kid losing it over this girl that said straight up she wasn't looking for a boyfriend. So Of coarse he got played and was mad and confused for the other half of the movie. And I was like why is she messing with his head, hes obviously feeling you and hes a shawty! But in end she got married out of now where to some other guy, snap sorry for the spoiler. All that the movie taught me was that sometimes you have to stay with someone you kinda like until you find someone you love. Thanks 500 days of summer, for nothing.

Ahhh yes and now Paper heart. A documentary I guess about a documentary, not completely sure. But Charlyne Yi who doesn't believe in love, goes around the country with her crew asking the question what is love and does it exist. Of coarse along the way she meets Michael Cera and she does kinda fall in love. Its really cute, like so cute my heart wanted to blow up. Charlyne Yi and Michael Cera are so awkward yet adorable and it was cool watching her travel around the country and meeting all the different people along the way. Also the end, that wasn't really an ending was clever.

So I give it toooooo, PAPER HEART for furfilling my indie love story movie fix. Ef you 500 days of summer, but Joseph Gordon-Levitt you are still a shawty!

My next movie to watch is district 9, way different vibe, its probably gonna scare the crap out of me.

Kinda obsessed with Animal Collective

So I may be late with this one but recently I have really got into Animal Collective. Many people have asked me if I listen to them and I always said I would check them out but never really did. They're music may seem a little cracked out, but I that's the point. Especially since its a band that originated as friends who essentially are experimenting with music and sound yet foremost are just enjoying creating art. Below I have my favorite song by them right now.

I am back!

So I must say I have made the hiatus of the century, and I will be surprised if anyone is still following me cause I would have gave up as well. But trust me with the end of school and figuring out next semester there was no way! But I am done, finally and am officially studying abroad in Capetown next semester. Which will makes things much more interesting. I am very and excited and nervous. But as my apology for my long time away I have a little video to make you giggle.

Precious

Finally saw Precious, and of coarse I loved it! I thought that all the actors did a really good job. Gabby Sidibe was amazing. I forgot Mariah was Mariah Carey, and Monique totally played her part to perfection. It touches on a lot of issues that I think we try to overlook in our society so I am glad a movie like this is getting so much attention. Though it touches on some really tough issues, it was inspiring and funny. So yes go see precious in a theater near you!

Celebrate Diwali!!!!

Diwali is popularly known as the "festival of lights", the most significant spiritual meaning is "the awareness of the inner light". Diwali celebrates this through festive fireworks, lights, flowers, sharing of sweets, and worship. While the story behind Dipavali varies from region to region, the essence is the same to rejoice in the inner light (Atman) or the underlying reality of all things (Brahman).

At my school we had a Diwali celebration today and we did a Bollywood dance with food and music, if I can I will post the video too!

I love Quincey Jones( I have a dog named Quincey) I didn't know Rashida was his daughter, so I am obsessed!

a PLEASE, that sounds like music

Yesterday I was honored to introduce Dr Jericho Brown at a poetry reading at my college. He is an amazing poet and writer, and his first book Please just came out. Last year Dr Jericho chose one of my poems for a poetry prize, so It was a huge honor to introduce him last night. I want to encourage everyone to buy it! I am gonna post bellow part of my speech which contains a Bio on him and his new poetry book. Also here is his website

Dr Jericho Brown is a poet, Professor of Creative Writing and Literature at University of San Diego. He received his PhD in Creative Writing and Literature from the University of Houston, holds an MFA from University of New Orleans as well as a BA from Dillard University. He is also a past editor at Gulf Coast and Callaloo. He also received two travel fellowships to the Krakow Poetry Seminar in Poland. His work has been featured in Oxford American, New England Review, and The Iowa Review. As well as worked as the speechwriter for the Mayor of New Orleans. Now his first book Please, has already won The American Book Award in 2009.

In his poetry book Please, He creates tracks as the soundtrack to a culture and history of our lives. The book is in four parts Repeat, Pause, Power, and Stop. He sings, shouts, and screams through the voices of famous icons such as Diane Ross, Janis Joplin, and the scarecrow from the wizard of Oz in order to send a message to his readers. Please is described as “Exploring the points in our lives at which love and violence intersect.” He creates an album; the poems are the tracks to his own music, a culture of African American history as well as the struggle of male identity and sexuality. His poems are alive, and will march right up to you with something to say.

This past week...

I have been on a bit of a hiatus, because of school. Its the weekend now and I am really happy to have some free time. My birthday was amazing. I only had my small canon, so I couldn't get the best pictures of Mos Def. But he was really amazing. He did songs on the ecstatic album, along with blackstar and early stuff. He played the drums, did the moonwalk, and a lot of other Michael Jackson songs. It was just all around a great show, I highly recommend seeing Mos Def in concert if hes near you. Also Governor's island is an amazing place to see a concert, right on the beach next to the new york city skyline.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes as well!

The olsen twins are just too cool

(Images from New York Times)
I recently read an article about Ashley Olsen in Marie Claire, which only extended my love for the Olsen twins. I grew up with them watching Full House, So little time, It takes too, Even Mary Kate and Ashley's Slumber party. Now yet they are more tamed and less in the lime light of cheesy yet wonderful sitcoms and paparazzi scandals. They still manage to continue making career moves, without feeling as though we can't take the Olsen twins anymore. I want more! Either way the article about Ashley mostly talked about their new clothing line The Row. Above are a few pictures from their new line. The clothes seem to be mostly simple but classic, which I like. These Girls really just amaze me.

My birthday is Saturday, and I see Mos Def in concert!! I will definitely be posting all about it.

My cousins wife showed me this the other day, its a portable wood fired hot tub from Holland. I don't know if they sell them in America yet, but when they do I am getting one. They come in amazing colors and the best part is you can bring them where ever you go. Check out there website for more information. This is definitely going on my wish list.

I want... heart shaped glasses

(google Image, glasses from Fredflare.com)

Well I am back! I had a little hiatus for a while. My best friend who I hadn't seen in a year was visiting, but she left back to Rome today. We had a lot of fun together and I am gonna miss so much. But today was a pretty awesome day. I went to the Wassaic Project in Wassaic, New York. It is basically a showing of installations and art in this old grain mill. It really cool going up to the top it is filled to the bring with creative and fantastic art work, my dads friend Bowie run and started the project. There is also poetry, live music, and camping the whole weekend. Check out there website. I took a lot of pictures and will post them when I get them developed.

Next week I am going to Martha's Vineyard and would love to have some heart shaped glasses for my trip, hence the photos above. I am really excited, the Obamas are gonna be there the same time as us!

We know Robertoo

I really cannot believe it is August, summer is flying by. I was in the city yesterday with my friend and did a little shopping. We went to Uniqlo and I got leopard print leggings and jeans. They are pretty fly. Today I swam in the river and did face painting again, its basically my new favorite thing. I love being able to really enjoy summer and not have to go to work anymore. Even though it feels like its ending to quickly. But I am excited for fall. I ordered some dunks online today for school. I also been taking pictures on my film camera again and when those are developed I will post those.

I want some Jeffrey campbell shoes

(photo from jeffreycampbellshoes.com)
I have been looking for some shoes for fall for the longest time. If Jeffrey Campbell wasn't so expensive, I would have copped a pair of these already.
I am done with camp! finally it was six weeks long, but I am really gonna miss the kids. Today me and my friend went to Sale day in town. It was a lot of fun, I ended up buying face paint kit and a mini pencil. Money spent well, I know:)
